Written with the non-lawyer in mind, Social Work Law presents a comprehensive, practical and accessible guide to the legal framework that any social worker, or student of social work needs to know. Books in this series provide a fuller and more adequate description of the social context than is often afforded by existing textual studies. Equal prominence is therefore given to descriptions of context, drawing on methods from disciplines such as ethnography, sociology and psychology, and to the language produced. Friedman's book devotes little attention; but it would have been easy to find in Law, Science, and Policy a more thorough elaboration not only of the notion of law as a process of decision whereby values are authoritatively allocated (cf. id. at 11, 17), but also of the manifestoes.
